Suitability - Who should attend?

This is an exam-based course, and you need to have achieved at least a grade C (4) standard in both English and maths GCSE or equivalent to enrol on the course.

Relevant experience will be taken into account when considering qualifications.

Training Course Content

You will learn about the basic principles of bookkeeping, costing methods, communications and computerised accounting using Sage software.

You will gain your first professional AAT qualification. On successful completion, you can then progress on to the AAT Accounting Level 3 Advanced Diploma.

There are three levels to the AAT Accounting Qualification. You will spend about a year on each level, so if you start at Level 2, it will take you three years to become fully qualified. If you have previous experience, you could have certain exemptions, and qualify in two years or less.

Course delivery details

Depending on the level you study you will be learning in a classroom environment over one or two evenings a week. You are also expected to practice your learned skills at home or in your place of work.

You should spend three hours a week studying outside of class, for each learning and assessment area. Your study time will need to increase before assessments when you're revising.

Don't forget to use all the study and membership support that is also offered by AAT as well as from the course tutors.

Whole class and groupwork activities will take place but the majority of your learning will be ‘standalone'.

The course fee includes tuition and exam fees but you will have to purchase books from Kaplan which cost £113. You will also need to pay membership fees to the AAT.

Final assessment is by examination only. There is no coursework to complete, but you will be assessed in class periodically to establish understanding and learning.
