Course description

Sporting industries need people with an enthusiasm for fitness and teamwork! Do you think you have what it takes to collaborate with people and expand your health and well-being?

You will have the opportunity to develop your coaching abilities whilst learning about professional conduct and behaviours. You will also work towards achieving GCSE maths and English.

All units are graded to encourage you to demonstrate your management of activities, during 60 hours of work experience. This is delivered by attending weekly sessions or block placements.

If you're a keen basketball player and 16–19 years old, you have the opportunity to apply for the Basketball Academy Level 2 as an enrichment programme alongside the NCFE Coaching in Sport Level 2 Diploma.

Suitability - Who should attend?

The entry requirements for this course are four GCSEs at grade 3 or above, with one of those being English or maths.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

There will be opportunities to progress to Level 3 Sport and Physical Activity Coaching pathway, or to explore additional progression opportunities such as an apprenticeship, Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport or employment.

Training Course Content

To lay the foundation for your career or further study, your learning will consist of core units, including:

  • participating in sport
  • sports coaching
  • developing sporting skills and tactical awareness
  • performance analysis in sport
  • introduction to healthy exercise and nutrition
  • factors affecting participation in sport and physical activity
  • how to plan, deliver and evaluate an activity session
  • work experience with a meaningful employer, such as a sports club, school or community partnership program

Course delivery details

You will gain the knowledge required to effectively plan, deliver and evaluate high quality sporting activities. This will crossover into improved confidence, subject understanding and abilities to support you to progress to pursue further training or career.

Expenses

If you want to prepare for a career in the sport and leisure industry, particularly in a community role, then this is the qualification for you. The programme will also help you to develop entrepreneurial skills that are important in a community sports environment.
