Would you like your garden to thrive? This course plants the seeds of knowledge for you to learn how to grow a healthy, happy habitat.

Training Course Content

What you’ll learn

Encouraging Birds into your Gardens:

Firstly, in this course we will look at how you can maintain your garden for a range of bird species. This will include learning:

  • how to provide food for birds at key times of the year
  • what to plant in your garden with birds in mind
  • ways to identify of common garden birds
  • the types of nest boxes to provide habitats

Encouraging Insects into your Garden:

Secondly, insects like bees and butterflies are indicators of the health of our environment. This course also involves managing gardens to be`insect havens’ through learning:

  • the life cycles of insects and other invertebrates
  • how to identify common garden invertebrates
  • ways to record garden insects
  • practical activities to improve your garden for insects

Planting for Wildlife:

Finally, we will look at plants you can grow for an attractive garden by gaining knowledge on:

  • key plant terminology
  • the range of animal niches that plants provide in the garden
  • how you can create structures which benefits wildlife
  • a range of native and non-native species through practical activities
