Course description

Do you want a career in the creative industries? The level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma offers you the opportunity to gain skills and understanding in a variety of creative mediums and create a portfolio of industry relevant skills.

The UAL Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication are qualifications for post-16 students looking to pursue a specialist career in the creative industries.

 

The course will extend your creative potential and build strategies to allow you to get the most out of your creative studies. It is a fast-paced experience that will encourage you to develop confidence in your own ideas and build a substantial portfolio of work.

You will develop your visual and practical skills through a range of project-based activities in specialist workshops and studios: Painting, Drawing and Sculpture 3D design, Graphic Design and Digital Processes, Screen Printing, Photography and Video.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Minimum of 4 or more GCSEs Grade 4 or above ( A*–C ), preferably including English language and usually maths, or a national award in art and design, a first diploma in art and design at merit or above, plus GCSE Grade 4/C or above.

Your offer is also subject to us seeing a portfolio of art, design or craft work.

Applicants will be required to complete an internal assessment. We will discuss: Portfolio containing artwork from school (sketchbooks), drawings and paintings from observation (including both black and white and colour), 3D work (photos of these are acceptable), digital work (printed or saved on a memory stick), work completed outside of school/ college e.g. photographs, drawings, paintings. Artwork fully analysed and/ or a written study of a piece of artwork.

All students have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.

Training Course Content

This course further develops a student's knowledge of the creative industries, allowing them to explore and select a specialist practice focus, and develop skills and knowledge central to supporting and sustaining an individualised specialist creative career.

You will be given the option to explore your own career pathway and choose your desired discipline, specialising in a variety of creative practice disciplines. You will develop skills in how to be a creative practitioner and apply this to your own practice.

In the first year of this course, you will study for the Diploma. Once that Diploma is successfully achieved, you will be invited to continue on to complete the full Extended Diploma in the second year of the course.
