Course description

With the Foundation Pathway in Health and Childcare, you can kickstart a career in these exciting sectors as you learn the skills needed to progress. You will also be given the opportunity to gain English, Maths and IT qualifications alongside the programme.

Upon completion of the course, you can progress to a higher-level health and social care study programme at college, or onto an apprenticeship. We can give you advice and information to help you plan your next step, whether you would like to study another course in the college or somewhere else, or are looking to enter employment.

We will provide you with the opportunity to develop vital employability and independence skills through our learning companies. Our partnerships with external organisations and employers are central to giving you the tools you need to have a successful future.

Suitability - Who should attend?

There are no formal entry requirements for this programme. A school/college report and an EHCP may be a requirement, based on your support needs. Your suitability for the programme will be determined by our staff after you have attended a taster experience.

We are looking for young people with an enthusiasm to learn and a desire to make progress. We want applicants to actively take part in keep warm activities set by teachers before starting in September.

Training Course Content

This course will give you an introduction to health and childcare and time to think about your future career. We arrange for support from our college Careers Advisers who are there to help you choose your next step.

You also gain wider personal development skills vital for success in further study or employment. They include self-confidence, working with others, taking responsibility and time management. By the end of the course you will have benefited from a valuable insight in future study or careers open to you.

You will gain a Vocational Certificate in Learning, Employability and Progression on completion of your studies, alongside a Level 1 Diploma.

On successful completion of the course, you may move on to a full-time Level 2 course, an apprenticeship or employment.

Course delivery details

You will take part in interactive and fun activities to develop your skills.

You will receive lots of support and advice before and during the programme.

Your tutor will work with you to set individual learning targets each term and you will get feedback on your progress.

You will be assessed through creating a folder of evidence for each subject.

You will be assessed at a level that suits you.

Functional skills and GCSE maths and English will be assessed through external examinations.
