Course description

Higher National Diploma (HND) in Creative Media Production (Film)

Our long established tradition of providing media education has a national reputation and we consider our HND students will benefit from this.

Our industry partners, collaborators, practitioners and lecturers all work hard to place students firmly in real working environments. Sourcing exciting and innovative client briefs is key to our delivery and our students will work on these assignments to develop a broad showcase that demonstrates talent and enterprise.

We will provide an educational foundation for a range of creative, technical and management careers in Media; will ensure our delivery is geared towards current practice using industry standard equipment; include a broad range of activities that encourage synergy with different media products; provide excellent academic underpinning skills for creative thinking and enable students to be employment ready by working on key projects that seek to make an immediate contribution to employment.

The units are delivered through a variety of techniques to suit all different learning styles. The class work includes: group work, pair activities, investigations, discussions, experiments and note taking.

At each level of study you will be asked to participate in formative and summative assessment procedures which require you to consider and grade your own work against the agreed assessment criteria. This allows you to reflect upon your own practice, with tutors, and to take responsibility for acknowledging areas of strength and areas for development in your work.

Learning activities include lectures, workshops and practical sessions, located in the TV studio and Creative Arts Centre. It is envisaged that you will work on location and with industry professionals in order to fully appreciate work related experience.

A strong emphasis is placed on working and learning with others. You will regularly be set tasks to complete in partnership with other students. There is also a significant emphasis on you being able to work independently and taking responsibility for your own learning during your time on the HND.
