Course description

This course is also available from Bracknell and Wokingham College.

 

On completing a further period of study and/or experience you will be able to work in private practice. It is also a valuable qualification for a wide range of occupational roles involving working with people.

Those who have already completed levels two and three in counselling and want to train to become a fully qualified counsellor.

Suitability - Who should attend?

GCSE English language Grade 4 (C) or above, or equivalent.

You must be at least 21 years old to apply for this course.

You will need to have completed Level 2 and 3 Certificates in Counselling Studies and Skills or an equivalent qualification.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

This course qualifies you to work as a counsellor in an agency setting and is an important step towards being able to work in private practice.

Completion of a further Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling (120 hours) prepares you to work fully independently, such as in a private practice, for example.

Alternatively you could study the Psychotherapeutic Counselling Level 5 CPCAB Diploma, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Level 5 CPCAB Diploma, or an Open University Foundation Degree.

You could also go into private practice after a period of working as an agency counsellor. You may also be eligible to study on the BA (Hons) ‘top up' degree at Guildford College if you have Accredited Prior Learning at Level 5, or a tutor recommendation for Level 6 study.

Course delivery details

You will learn via a combination of:

Homework: You will need to allow plenty of time for reading, reflecting and writing assignments. You will also be required to attend personal therapy and find and attend a placement including attending supervision (100 client hours with a minimum of 5 clients needed to pass the course).
