The main areas of study are: 2D which includes: drawing, painting, graphic design, (designing magazine and CD covers, textiles and printmaking. 3D which includes: Model making, product design, sculpture, mask making, fashion and textiles. Over the course of the year students will study eight practical based units, covering all the above areas and topics: 2D and 3D Communication Working to Fashion Design Briefs Working to Textile Briefs Working to 3D Design Briefs Contextual references in Art and Design Explore and Develop Art and Design Ideas Produce an Art and Design Outcome Working with 3D Design Craft Briefs The above units will be delivered by means of project work and will give students basic hands on knowledge of a range of vocational areas within the field of art, design, fashion and media. By the end of the course students should have built up a portfolio of work demonstrating a wide variety of skills and techniques. There will be opportunities to visit exhibitions, museums and galleries and be involved in art and design competitions.

Suitability - Who should attend?

You will have achieved 4 or more GCSEs at grade A* - C including English, or have successfully completed an appropriate Level 2 qualification. Plus a reference and supporting portfolio of work. If you are a mature student, previous work experience, enthusiasm and motivation to succeed and to progress will be taken into account.
