The new BTEC Higher National qualifications in Music are designed to address an increasing need for high quality professional and technical education pathways at Levels 4 and 5, providing students from all backgrounds with a clear line of sight to employment or progression to further higher education study. Practical knowledge will be gained through a range of creative workshops in response to industry focused briefs.
The course is suitable for students progressing from Level 3 or A Levels who want a faster and more direct route into the industry, as well as the more mature student who is looking to retrain within the music industry. As a student on this course, you will have access to 1:1 pastoral support via our student support team, technician support and state-of-the-art industry standard equipment which includes:
&bull Music Recording Studios, featuring a flagship Audient ASP4816 Recording console, Genelec monitors, Pro Tools Studio & plugins, Logic Pro X and outboard compression & gates
&bull 5.1 Genelec Surround mixing suite running Pro Tools 12, UAD plugins, a Universal Audio Apollo Interface and Presonus Faderport midi controller
&bull Mac editing suite running Pro Tools 12, Logic Pro X, M Audio USB keyboard controllers and Native Instruments Komplete
&bull A live performance space with full backline with Blackstar and Vox amps, acoustic piano, PDP drumkit, Allen & Heath Q16 and Yamaha LS-9 digital mixing desks, digital stage box and a range of industry standard microphones.
The course will consist of 120 credits delivered through 8 units:
- Recording Technology
- The Music Industry
- Performance
- Live Sound Techniques
- Marketing & Promotion
- Composing Using Technology
- Music & Sound for Picture
- Professional Development
This is classed as a full-time course. On successful completion of this course, you will gain a BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma.
You can achieve a BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma by studying a further two years on successful completion of the BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma.
Home & EU students are eligible to apply for a part-time loan from Student Finance England.
