Learn how to service cars and carry out basic automotive repairs and gain an industry-recognised qualification in motor vehicle maintenance and repair.
Course Content
You'll work on a wide range of motor vehicles in one of our modern, well-stocked workshops. And we have plenty of the tools and specialist equipment you'd expect to find in good quality professional garages and workshops. Our team of tutors have worked in the automotive industry or are trained to manufacturers' standards so they can help you understand what will make you successful at work.ÊWith the IMI's online portfolio, developed specially for the course, you'll be able to view your progress and manage your work from outside the College as well as in the class
The modules include:
Tools, equipment and materials
Introduction to the retail car maintenance and repair industry
Spark ignition engine systems components and operation
Engine liquid cooling and lubrication
Steering and suspension systems
Braking systems
Routine maintenance processes and procedures
Construction and maintenance of wheels and tyres
Exhaust systems
Compression ignition fuel systems
Vehicle lighting system
Spark ignition system maintenance
Health and safety.
Your tutor will observe you in practical assessments and there will be online, multiple choice exams. You'll also produce a portfolio of work.
Progression
Progress onto our Level 2 course to improve your skills and job prospects or get onto an apprenticeship in car maintenance and repair.
