Course description

Crime and punishment in the Middle Ages: Crime and punishment during the Middle Ages. Using medieval London records, we explore how municipal authorities dealt with a range of offenders from murderers to cross-dressing prostitutes. Tutor: Vanessa KingTutor Bio: Vanessa King is a medieval historian and has taught history and history of art for Birkbeck and Goldsmiths Colleges, University of London since 1999. She also teaches for the WEA and the Mary Ward Centre. Vanessa has published several articles focussing on Domesday Studies and more recently on the impact of the Black Death on fourteenth century England. She is currently engaged in writing a book on medieval queenship.
