Course description

NHS Finance for Non-Finance Managers - In House

Our course is delivered in house or virtually for NHS organisations throughout England. We can deliver from your own premises or at an external venue or virtually. You can have up to 20 participants on this course.

NHS Finance for Non-Finance Managers is a course to help managers in the NHS understand the financial information they receive and work with.

We have worked with NHS organisations since 2007 and really understand the terminology and structures used in our health system. We relate basic finance concepts using NHS specific terminology.

In order for NHS managers to be able to use financial information to a better effect they need to understand it and be able to act upon it. NHS managers need to know what the terminology means, what the purpose of the financial report is and what actions they can take to improve financial performance.

Therefore this NHS Finance for Non-Finance Managers course takes a simple approach to quickly helping NHS managers understand their financial reports.

Our course is engaging and includes lots of group and individual exercises.

Suitability - Who should attend?

This course is for anyone who works in the NHS and needs to be more familiar with NHS financial information and statements and who wishes to learn more about NHS Finance terminology.

We assume no prior knowledge from people attending the course.

By the end of the course those who attend will have a good knowledge of basic accounting principles and terminology. They will understand the uses of the different financial statements. In particular they will be familiar with the terminology and statements used in the NHS and be confident in using the financial information they receive to its best effect.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

We aim to ensure that everyone on the course leaves with an understanding of the financial information they receive in the NHS. For example, many managers receive a Budget Report every month from their Finance Team. So that they can use this information successfully, they need to understand what they are looking at!

By the end of the course your attendees will:

  • have a full understanding of the nature and impact of the financial statements that they receive.
  • understand basic finance terminology
  • be able to understand the language and terminology used by your NHS Finance team.
  • be able to act upon the financial information that they receive
