Course description
Course outline and objectives
Digital assets are a type of asset that exist only in digital form. They can be anything from music and movies to software and financial instruments. Crypto assets are a type of digital asset that use cryptography to secure transactions and to control the creation of new units.
The regulatory landscape for such assets is ever-changing and there are a few key concepts of which you need to be aware.
Although your firm may not be a cryptoasset service provider (CASP), this course is also relevant to FCA authorised firms as an introduction to cryptoassets because crypto-related regulation may affect your business, even indirectly:
- You may want to understand crypto-related risks because many are completely different from what you may have dealt with before
- You may end up delaing with a 3rd party CASP as a counterparty if one of your clients starts trading cryptocurrencies. As an example, a 3rd party CASP may need additional KYC information from your firm based on Travel Rule compliance (a topic this course will cover). You will want to understand why such a request has come through and how you can comply.
