Course description
Often patients presenting with neurological conditions of the brain can be overwhelming to care for due to the often broad range of possible diagnosis’ and inability for these patients to undergo diagnostic imaging in general practice.
This course will cover some common neurological conditions, with the main focus on the seizuring patient, the disease processes, diagnostic testing/imaging and the treatment/nursing considerations required in order for you to be confident when presented with these patients.
Specific areas to be covered:
• Anatomy of the brain
• Neurological exam and localisation
• Diagnostic procedures – MRI and CSF sampling
• Seizuring patients
• Vestibular disease
• Traumatic brain injury
• Meningitis
• Protozoal disease (toxoplasma and neospora)
• Mentation and coma
• Treatments of neurological conditions
• Special considerations for nursing neurological patients
