This day of lectures will include physiology of pain; practical ways of evaluating pain in small animals; guidelines for assessment and treatment of pain; and overview of commonly used analgesics in veterinary practice.
Specific areas to be covered:
- What is pain? How do we know if an animal is feeling pain?
- What tools do we have for pain assessment in small animals?
- What are pain scales? How and why are they being used? Let’s talk about pain faces!
- What treatments do we have available to treat the pain?
- Are analgesic therapies safe? What are the concerns and side-effects?
- What adjunctive therapies can be used?#
