Course description
The causes of collapse in emergency patients can vary greatly, from hypovolaemia to sepsis, and immune mediated disease to hypothermia. This full day course will look at a variety of these different presentations, from their presenting signs, to their ongoing nursing requirements.
Specific areas to be covered:
• Understand the pathophysiology behind commonly encountered immune mediated diseases
• Understand the different types of shock, including hypovolaemic shock and its treatment
• Understand hypothermia and hyperthermia and the widespread effects on patients
• Gain knowledge about sepsis, why it happens and how we treat and nurse these patients
• Understanding chest drain placement and maintenance
