Course description

Jaundice, or icterus, is a clinical sign rather than an actual disease itself, and is caused by hyperbilirubinaemia.  A jaundiced dog may present with yellowing pigmentation of the skin, mucous membranes and conjunctival membrane over the sclera.  During this course we will discuss normal bilirubin formation and disposal, along with anatomical classification of the hyperbilirubinaemia (pre-hepatic, hepatic or post-hepatic).  We will discuss the common conditions which may cause jaundice in the dog, including disease processes, treatment plans and nursing care of these patients.
