Course description

Implementing and Embedding Senior Managers & Certification Regime in the Retail Banking Sector

The Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SM&CR) came into effect for retail banks from December 2016. It replaced the existing Approved Persons Regime (APER) with the aim to increase individual accountability of senior managers within the UK financial services industry. It was born from the 2008/09 Financial Crisis, and other scandals such as PPI mis-selling and the LIBOR rigging examples. This course provides insights in to how the Retail Banking sector has implemented SM&CR, and investigates some of the challenges that Banks have experienced and how they are responding to these.

Benefits of attending:

  • Gain sector knowledge of the roll out of SM&CR to date
  • Gain insights to any gaps in your own implementation, and how these can be addressed
  • Learn through case studies of good practice and poor practice across the sector
  • Understand how compliance can be maintained through effective systems, controls and reporting
