Course description
Greek (Modern) Improvers:
This course is suitable for those who have already studied Modern Greek for three terms. You will cover topics such as making and answering a phone call, writing an informal letter, the weather, the seasons and the months, transactions at the post office and the bank, ordering a meze selection at a taverna. You will also study the past tense and the imperative.
By the end of the course, you will have covered the following topic areas:
- Expressing necessity, possibility and desire
- Making requests
- Making and answering a phone call
- Talking about past actions
- Talking about the weather
- Talking about rooms to let and summer sport activities
- Comparing people and objects
- Making suppositions about possible future actions
- Giving orders or instructions
- You will also have studied the following aspects of grammar:
- The use of the simple subjunctive
- The simple past
- Personal pronouns (weak and strong form)
- Interrogative pronouns
- Comparative and superlative degree of adjectives
- Conditional speech – type 1
- The Imperative
