Course description
The first weeks of the course are tutor led, looking at proportion and measuring and experimentation with different media. The course includes reference to work by professional artists. The last half of the course is designed so that students can work with a model in their chosen media to produce a finished piece. By the end of the course you will have been given the opportunity to: gain proficiency and understanding of how to create a successful portrait; broaden awareness of the effects of different media; gain knowledge of the history of portraiture as an art form. Materials needed for the first session: Charcoal pencil, a sharpener, eraser and A3 or A2 paper and a drawing board or support. Details of further materials for the rest of the course will be provided by the tutor.
