Course description
This course is ideal for experienced and qualified make-up artists who work unsupervised, possibly in a supervisory or managerial role and have a high level of relevant knowledge and skills.
This course covers a wide range of advanced skills, knowledge and techniques used within the theatrical and media make-up industry and will develop your practical skills. As part of the course you will:
- Create, design and present a design plan in the fashion, theatrical, special effects and media make-up industry.
- Research in the fashion, theatrical, special effects and media make-up industry.
- Create and cast small prosthetic pieces and bald caps.
- Apply prosthetic pieces and bald caps.

Evidence for practical unis can be collected through your work in the industry and gathered over time for inclusion in your portfolio. This course is practical-based and assessed in a realistic working environment. Knowledge and understanding are assessed through assignments and online tests.
Students from this course have the potential to progress onto university to study a Level 5 diploma in Management Practice and Advanced Techniques in the Hair and Beauty or Make-up Sector, or enter employment.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Subject/level: Level 3 Make-up qualification. In addition, applicants should have four GCSEs at grades A*-C to include English and Maths, or an alternative level 2 qualification in Numeracy and Literacy. Applicants should be proficient in written English and should be working in the make-up industry. Applicants should be focused and committed to the course. 100% Attendance and punctuality for all sessions is a major requirement of this course as well as the completion of assignments, examinations and practical assessments to be completed for each practical unit.
