Foundation Degree (FdA) Art and Design

The Foundation Degree (FdA) focuses on 'making as thinking', with studio work at the centre of study. Learners will refine their own art and design work, forming a basis for confident and self-directed practice in the creative industries. Learners will undertake a series of two and three-dimensional workshops and studio projects of varying complexity, which involve both individual and group work. To place learners' own work in a historical setting and support studio practice, there is also a varied range of lectures, seminars, trips and visits from practitioners.

Tutorials provide individual support to all learners. On successful completion of the course learners can undertake the BA 9 Hons) Art and Design (top-up) one year programme.

Teaching

You are taught through a combination of lectures and practicals. In addition, you have timetabled meetings with your personal tutor. You will use industry-standard equipment and have access to labs and library facilities throughout your course.

Assessment

The course provides you with opportunities to test your understanding of the subject informally before you complete the formal assessments that count towards your final mark. Assessment methods include and a range of coursework assessments such as a technical file , portfolios, presentations and your final year major project. All assessment are spread across the year to make the workload manageable

• Into employment to art and design related areas. This has recently included Gallery Assistant/ Prop Maker/Graphic design assistant.
