Course description

What will I learn?

This qualification in travel and tourism covers many aspects to help you succeed in your career within the industry, covering units to give you maximum opportunities. This qualification contains units that are relevant to all sectors of the industry, whether you're entering into a career as a travel agent, resort representatives or tour operations.

This course allows learners to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or progression to Level 2 studies in the hospitality sector covering areas of food service and cooking for example. The units studied may include:

  • Principles of customer service in hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism
  • Worldwide travel and tourism destinations
  • Interpersonal skills for the travel and tourism workplace
  • Introduction to the cruise industry

Students will also undertake GCSE in English and Mathematics. A one week work experience placement in mandatory and is expected to take place. Students who achieve a Merit or Distinction grade and GCSE Mathematics and English, will be able to progress to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Travel & Tourism (1 Year) or possibly the Diploma (2 years). Alternatively those who achieve a Pass on their main programme and either English or Maths can progress to the Travel Industry Skills programme.

What do I need to know?

Four GCSE passes at grade D/3 (including English Language and Mathematics) or a Level 1 at a Pass grade plus English and Mathematics GCSE at grade D or Functional Skills at Level 1. Successful interview and satisfactory reference are also essential.
