Course description
This course is for those who have an interest in engineering or electronics and want a career in industries like aerospace, cars or telecommunications. With mechanical, manufacturing, electronics and theory sessions in essential engineering you will build your knowledge as well as your skills. You will spend time in the workshop using machine tools and marking out components.
Units include: Investigating an engineering product; Machining techniques; Using and interpreting engineering information; Maths for engineering; Mechanical engineering; Electronic circuit design.
There is a continual assessment and you must pass all units. After completion of this course, students can move up to the Level 3 course at South Thames College, look for work or consider an apprenticeship.

Suitability - Who should attend?
All Applicants must have 3 GCSE at Grade D (3) in maths & English.We may accept L1 qualifications with a minimum of Merit (if applicable) and Functional Skills in Maths and English at L1 or a BKSB assessment of Maths and English at L1. You will also be asked for an academic reference from previous school/college.Learners with a Grade D (3) in Maths or English will be enrolled to GCSE. If they hold Functional Skills, then they need to enrol onto next level of Functional Skills or GCSE depending on current FS level achieved. Any learner with one GCSE at Grade C, will be enrolled onto stretch and challenge for that subject.
