Course description
The 2391-52 qualification, also known as the Inspection and Testing qualification, is an important certification for individuals involved in electrical inspection and testing activities. This qualification is typically required for electricians, electrical contractors, and other professionals working in the electrical industry. It signifies that the holder has demonstrated the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out thorough and accurate inspections and tests on electrical installations. 2391-52 is specifically focused on the inspection and testing of electrical installations in accordance with the requirements of the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations – BS 7671.
Our inspection and testing course is designed for electricians and associated trade professionals interested in developing their knowledge and skills in electrical inspection and testing. The course covers all of the elements of initial verification and periodic inspection and testing.
After completing the course, candidates will be able to undertake the City & Guilds 2391-52 final assessment.

Suitability - Who should attend?
City & Guilds does not set entry requirements for the 2391-52 qualification. However, candidates must have the potential and opportunity to gain the qualification successfully. Therefore it would be expected that candidates have a basic knowledge and understanding of electrical science and principles and experience of electrical installation work either within the electrical contracting industry or an associated trade.
Do I need this qualification?
There are many advantages to gaining the City & Guilds 2391-52 qualification. Furthering or starting a career within the electrical industry. 2391 is often a pre-requisite by potential employers.
Completing EICRs for rental properties.
Applying for an ‘Approved Electrician’ grade with the JIB. Candidates will need to have achieved the 2391-52 qualification.

- IET Guidance Note 3: Inspection & Testing
- IET On-Site Guide (OSG)
Course delivery details
Course Delivery: Blended learning
The final City & Guilds assessment will take place in one of our many assessment sites conveniently located across the country. The final City & Guilds assessment has four elements and takes place on two consecutive days.
And includes:
- A 2 hour multiple-choice open book online exam
- A 30 minute visual task
- A practical assessment that covers both Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection, testing a candidate’s ability to inspect an electrical system and identify any faults.
- A 1 hour and 20-minute short open book paper to complete their assessment.
