Counterbalance Conversion Course
Designed specifically for individuals who have prior experience with other types of lift trucks, this course provides a comprehensive transition into the world of counterbalance forklift operation.
Our experienced trainers, armed with extensive knowledge and a passion for safety, deliver a curriculum that combines theoretical learning with practical hands-on experience.
Participants will delve into the unique characteristics, functionalities, and safety protocols associated with counterbalance forklifts, ensuring they emerge from the course with a profound understanding and confidence in their ability to operate these vehicles safely and efficiently.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Novice Operator course is designed for those with no prior experience of forklift truck operation who wish to achieve a nationally recognised operator qualification in the safe and correct use of counterbalance forklift up to a 5000 kg lifting capacity.
Novice Courses: Ideal for any total beginner using their first forklift truck, and has no previous experience of Materials Handling Equipment.
Experienced Courses: For forklift truck operator who has an extensive amount of experience; at least 12 months, however holds no current certification and has had no formal training.
Refresher Courses: Suited for the operators who are trained and certified, the refresher course allows them to take a test to renew their licence. Forklift certifications are valid for 3 years.
Conversion Course: Suited for operators who are trained and certified on certain forklifts. The conversion course allows them to expand their forklift licences on other types of trucks.
Outcome / Qualification etc.
On completion of this forklift training, drivers are fully certified to operate this category of truck. The qualification is nationally recognised and accepted throughout the industry.

Training Course Content
- Course induction
- The need and reasons to training and statutory requirements (HASAWA 1974 etc.)
- Introduction to equipment/control familiarisation/principles of operation
- Identification/use/adjustment of attachments in pre-determined positions including forks
- Recommended mount and dismount
- Introduction to motive, steering controls and practice
- Basic steering exercises – simple courses
- Advanced steering exercises – figure of 8/chicane/90° approaches
- Battery charging procedures/maintenance
- Operator safety code and relevant handout
- Daily pre-use inspections/refuelling procedures
- Engineering principles/rated capacity/stability
- Simple hydraulics (theory)
- Introduction to hydraulic controls, handling empty pallets low level
- Load types/handling and weight assessment
- Stacking/de-stacking at low; eye and high level on industrial racking
- Stacking/de-stacking at low; eye and high level bulk stacks
- Stacking/de-stacking at low; eye and high level cup post pallets
- Manoeuvring with loads/ramps and inclines/handling awkward loads
- Relevant safety film
- Vehicle loading and unloading (theory)
- Vehicle loading and unloading (practical)
- Multi choice theory test
- Pre-use inspection test
- Practical skills test
