The Highfield Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid is specifically designed to meet the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for training first aiders with responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. The main objective of this course is to provide the learner with the essential training needed to become a paediatric first aider within in their own workplace.

Learning Outcome
- Roles and Responsibilities of a Paediatric First Aider
- How to Assess a First Aid Incident
- How to Provide First Aid for an infant and child who is unresponsive
- How to Provide First Aid to an infant/child who is Choking
- How to Provide First Aid to an infant/child with External Bleeding
- How to Provide First Aid to an infant/child in Shock
- How to Provide First Aid to an infant/child with Minor Injuries
Training Course Content
On completion of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Identify roles and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider in the workplace
- Conduct a scene survey and a primary survey of an infant/child
- Demonstrate how to administer CPR, how to place an infant/child in the recovery position and how to administer first aid to an infant/child experiencing a seizure
- Understand the use of AEDs
- Demonstrate administering first aid to an infant/child who is choking
- Identify the severity of external bleeding and know how to control it.
- Administer first aid to an infant/child with small cuts, grazes and minor burns or scalds.
- All trainers who provide this course have appropriate first aid and training qualifications, allowing them to explain the course content clearly and answer candidates’ questions knowledgably.
- This training course is fully interactive and specifically designed to cater for differing learning styles which means candidates are constantly fully engaged with the course content.
- The practical demonstrations and exercises in this course give the candidates the opportunity to attempt paediatric first aid procedures in a supportive environment. This leads to greater confidence when required to use these skills in their own workplace.

The course is delivered by one of our fully qualified, Highfield approved tutors, who use a variety of theoretical and practical input, including;

- Practical demonstrations and tasks of first aid techniques
Assessment of the learning outcomes is completed through observation of the learners’ practical first aid skills during practical tasks, as well as a multiple-choice exam at the end of the course.
