This is a one-year course aimed at school leavers and adults who want to progress into the Dog Grooming industry, and learn the basics of dog grooming. The course is a pre-requisite for the Level 3 Dog Grooming qualification.
This qualification is designed to help build knowledge and understanding while developing your work-based skills. It will give you the basis to start working in the dog grooming environment as an assistant. There are different units to complete, which involve both practical and theory aspects. The practical takes place in the college’s up-to-date commercial on-site grooming salons. Units include: Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing; Bathe and clean dogs; Control and restraining animals; Clean and maintain equipment; Dry dogs to prepare for styling; Basic trimming of a dog’s coat; Maintain the cleanliness and bio-security of the animal environment.
Students are assessed by observed practical assessment, assignments, question and answer papers and an online exam. You can progress on to the Level 3 Diploma for Professional Dog Grooming Stylists, gain employment in the industry, or start your own business.
Suitability - Who should attend?
There are no formal entry requirements. You will be expected to buy the correct PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and scissor sets from the college. A placement within a grooming salon would be an advantage but is not a course requirement.
