Course description
This one-year course is designed for those who wish to gain a more practical, work related qualification in IT, equivalent to four GCSEs at grades A*- C/9-4. Learners will successfully complete projects and coursework based on real life or work situations. Core units include Communicating and Working in the IT Industry and Computer Systems. The course also includes units in Project Planning with IT, Website Development, Doing Business Online and Interactive Media Production.
Practical projects and coursework are graded with Pass, Merit or Distinction. Computing students get involved in a range of varied activities as part of their course, from organising gameathons to creating and editing their own magazine. Successful learners are also recognised for their hard work at a special departmental award ceremony at the end of the year. There may be opportunities to work with employers to develop software for them. If you achieve the qualification with an overall Merit or above at Level 2, together with your English and Maths, you can progress to a related Level 3 programmes. Alternatively, the qualification helps students to develop their employability skills, leading to computing career opportunities.

Suitability - Who should attend?
You will need four GCSEs at Grade 3/D or above including English or Maths, or an appropriate Level 1 qualification and an appropriate standard of literacy and numeracy.
