Course description

Level 3 Travel Extended Diploma and Study Programme:

This two-year course is aimed at school leavers aged 16+, and gives you the detailed and in-depth knowledge needed to progress to university or into employment in the Travel industry. This is an in-depth, high quality foundation course covering a range of topics, some which are specific to Travel, Aviation and Hospitality, and others to develop your wider skills. You will work towards the following qualifications over two years: BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism; NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Introduction to Cabin Crew; NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Aviation Operations on the Ground. The main BTEC National qualification is the equivalent of 3 A Levels. Learners will complete 13 units including The World of Travel & Tourism, Global Destinations, Managing the Customer Experience, and Business Operations. Each year, learners will complete 30 hours of work experience which will allow them to put the theory they have learned into practice.

During the study programme, learners have the opportunity to participate in study visits to local attractions and employers. Most trips are subsidised by the college, and are a mixture of day-trips and residential visits. Assessments vary for each unit as some units require external assessment (i.e. exams). Other assessment methods include coursework, role plays, presentations and practical skills. On successful completion of the Level 3 National Extended Diploma, you will achieve the equivalent of 3 A Levels and 48-168 UCAS points. You can then apply for university courses in subjects such as Tourism Management, Cruise Management or Aviation Management. Alternatively, you could progress to our Level 4 HNC in Travel and Tourism Management. Employment is also an option, as this sector is one of the largest employers in the West Midlands. After successfully completing this course, you can begin your career in the Travel, Aviation and Hospitality industry.
