Are you looking to get to grips with art law?

Art world legal matters need not be intimidating. Understanding the laws governing the art market can present opportunities as well as mitigate risks. Our course offers a clear and concise overview of the essential legal topics: artists’ rights, intellectual property, cultural repatriation, and the legal aspects of buying and selling art.

With engaging case studies, focused discussions, and insights from industry experts, you’ll gain a practical understanding of how these legal elements impact the art market’s key players.

Take this course if:

  • You are an art world professional looking to learn more about art law.
  • You are a legal professional looking to deepen your understanding of the legal frameworks of the art business.
  • You’re a career starter aiming to broaden your understanding of the art world and enhance your resume.

Successful art business professionals should understand the legal aspects of copies, copyright infringement, and forgeries; art entering museums and tax implications, or the legal frameworks in creating foundations and new business ventures. At Sotheby’s Institute our expert faculty can guide you through the lifecycle of the work of art, analysing the legal implications from the moment of creation, through sale and ownership, to resale on the secondary market.
