Course description

This course introduces the use of AI, blockchain, and metaverse technologies to art businesses and museums for online sales and engagement.

With the global transition to online business during the COVID-19 pandemic, and continued innovations in fields such as AI, blockchain, and the metaverse, art businesses and museums alike are searching for ways to innovate and leverage these technologies to drive sales and engagement. This course explores how technology drives innovation in the contemporary art market, covering various topics such as digital art history, blockchain technology and NFTs, artificial intelligence, and the metaverse. Students will examine the impact of technology on the art world and how various players and institutions utilise it, such as artists, collectors, galleries, museums, art fairs, and auction houses.

Training Course Content

Day 1: Discuss the history of digital innovation in the art world and how the current landscape came to be. Then, visit a digital art exhibition at a leading New York institution and receive an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour with its curator.

Day 2: Explore the history of generative and AI art and the ways in which artists have used this technology over time. In the afternoon, meet with an auction house specialist who will discuss the unique opportunities and challenges that come with pricing and auctioning digital art.
