Course description
Introduction
This course gives you the skills and knowledge to work unsupervised in different childcare settings. Our childcare courses provide a real insight into working in this sector. We have a range of visiting speakers, such as nursery managers and early years teachers to share their professional experience with you and help you understand what effective professional behaviour and standards are.
Units relate to promoting children's care and education and include:
Child development from conception to seven years
Children's health and well-being
Providing safe environments for children
Play and learning
Understanding children's additional needs
Observation, assessment and planning
Supporting emergent literacy and maths
Preparing for school readiness
International perspectives
Professional partnerships.
Reflective practice for professional development.
There are 750 hours on a work placement in a range of childcare settings. This means two days a week will be in a real-world setting.
Assessment
You'll be assessed in your work placement to focus on your practical skills. You'll need to complete an effective practice study task and an extended assessment task. Both are set and marked externally.
