Course description
Sewing & Garment Making-The Basics-Beginners & Improvers
Overview
This Basic Sewing course will give you the chance to start making garments and accessories using a sewing machine. You will be introduced to the different techniques, step by step, starting with simple projects and clothes and helping you to build your confidence as you go. Those who have some experience will be guided onto more complex projects and techniques.
What will we cover?
We will start the course by making simple projects which will take you through the processes you need and that you can build on, such as placing pattern on fabric, joining fabric using a sewing machine and the different seam finishes. We will also learn how to insert a zip, sew a curve and create button holes, pattern match and construct a drawstring waistband.
You can then choose your own simple project/s to work on and will receive one to one help from the tutor.
Who is this course for? Is there anything I need to know before joining?
This course is aimed at beginners wanting to learn good sewing skills from scratch, and those with some experience wanting to build on their basic skills and learn new techniques.
As our courses are taught in English, please contact us if you have any concerns about your level of English.
What do I need to bring to the first class? Will there be any extra costs?
You will need a basic sewing kit consisting of: fabric scissors and paper scissors, pins, needles, tape measure, tailors chalk, a seam ripper, thread and a notebook and pen.
A materials list for the first session will be sent out before the start of the course and other materials you may need to purchase will be discussed as the course progresses.
