Course description

What will I learn?

Designed for anyone with a keen interest in vehicle maintenance, this Level 2 Certificate is ideal either if you’re between 16-19 and have just left school, or are over 19 and want to develop your knowledge and skills of the automotive industry to pursue a lifelong career. Specialising in Light Vehicle Maintenance, you’ll cover a range of areas in this practical and engaging qualification, as you develop the knowledge and skills you’ll need for employment in this sector. Combining both classroom work and practical workshop sessions, you’ll learn how to carry out routine vehicle maintenance, removing and replacing engine components, examining electrical auxiliary units and looking closely at chassis and driveline units and components. As part of the course, you’ll gain knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace, building the skills associated with working in a garage and developing your awareness of job roles and department responsibilities in a medium to large size dealership. You’ll finish the course with the Level 2 Certificate in Light Vehicle Maintenance, directly relevant to the automotive sector and awarded by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).
