Course description
This course is part of a new series of Nurse CPD courses aimed at providing a comprehensive overview of both the background to and management of frequently encountered small animal medical conditions. This course will begin with a review of the common underlying causes of acute and chronic kidney disease in both dogs and cats. You will use interactive case studies to demonstrate the clinical approach required to achieve a definitive diagnosis. The priorities in managing these conditions will also be discussed in the context of improving patient outcomes. In particular we will discuss the appropriate use of fluid therapy, including the types of fluid, routes of administration and the benefits of dialysis. The role of diets and neutraceuticals will also be discussed. The value of follow-up assessments in improving the long-term outcome in these chronic kidney disease cases will also be discussed.
