Intermediate Feline Orthopaedic Trauma: Fracture and Luxation Management

This highly practical two-day intermediate course will be an in-depth discussion, review and practical exercise focussed on perfecting the approach and stablisation of common orthopaedic traumatic conditions in cats.  We will tailor the content covered on the day to the demand of the delegate cohort and the available time. 

Topics to be covered 

Thoracic Limb:

• The anatomy of the feline humerus and fracture repair
• Antebrachial radius/ulna anatomy and fracture repair
• Metacarpal and metatarsal fractures: repair

Pelvis and pelvic limb:

• Sacro-iliac fractures
• Pelvic/ilium fractures
• Hip luxation - surgical stabilisation options; including hip toggle
• Femoral neck/slipped capital physeal fractures
• Femoral fractures
• Tibial fractures

This is not a beginner course.  Delegates should have a reasonable amount of experience of general orthopaedic surgery.  It is desirable to have some experience of feline orthopaedics.

Minimum requirements:

• Previous experience of orthopaedic surgery in cats
• Previous experience of fracture management; applying a DCP, LCP, K-wire, orthopaedic wire
• Good working knowledge and experience of locking and non-locking screws and plates
