Domestic Abuse and Professional Practice

Domestic abuse is a major public health issue; its impact is undeniable and affects all individuals but some more than others. This module considers this and the recognition of health and the promotion of wellbeing as one of the Sustainable Developmental Goals and is designed to offer students the space to explore and advance their knowledge and understanding about domestic abuse; risk assessment processes and theories; safety planning; as well as trauma-informed therapy.

The module’s main aim is to equip professional social workers and professional social and health care workers with the skills and knowledge that will empower them to facilitate a safe and secure environment when working with people with lived experience of domestic abuse.
