Course description

Combine your passion for sport with the development of teaching and coaching skills. Study a BSc (Hons) Sports Science with Education degree at ARU Writtle.

Our course explores the performance of sportspeople, from amateurs through to elite athletes. It also has a focus on education, and many of our graduates have gone on to become secondary-school teachers.

You’ll learn about the factors that affect the body, both physically and mentally, and how to work with those to benefit sporting performance.

As a student at ARU Writtle, you’ll take part in practical, hands-on classes using specialist sports facilities and equipment. These include our Centre for Sport and Health, which is open to the public and where you may work with elite clubs and athletes, and members of the community. There’s also a professional placement module in your final year.

You'll be taught by staff who are experienced practitioners in elite sports such as football, cycling, GB Basketball, squash and athletics.

As a graduate, you’ll have a well-rounded understanding of athletic performance and be ready to make a start on your career. If your interest lies in education, you could progress to postgraduate teacher training.
