What is CPR?
CPR or Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a labour-intensive emergency protocol performed during emergencies when heartbeat or breathing stops. CPR is administred in order to save intact brain function when breathing stops during a heart attack or while drowning until further medical help is provided to the patient. Performed successfully, CPR helps stabilise the patient's condition by restorting blood circulation and breathing. Agonal respirations are signs to determine if a person is in need of a CPR. Other indicators are irregular breathing and unresponsive breathing.
CPR is initiated with the help of chest compressions when in an emergency. Gettting trained to administer CPR is recommended to all people ranging from experts with a medical background to people with no background in health care who wish to be prepared to act in case of need. This is recommended instead of leaving a patient unattended. When there is no immediate medical intervention option, CPR can be a life-saving remedy.
CPR Training - Topics Covered
CPR courses cover the essential response to life-threatening emergencies, preparing participants to react in high risk situations when someone's life is threatened by cardiac arrest. CPR courses provide participants with the required knowledge and practical skills to build confidence and experience. CPR techniques in emergency scenarios at different levels of complexity are typically taught in these courses. Major changes in CPR procedures are discussed along with injury emergencies, environmental emergencies and medical emergencies.
CPR techniques can be discussed in the context of adult CPR and AED use. Courses in child or infant CPR and AED use are some of the most popular programmes among non-specialised staff, like parents and childcare professionals who are advised to complete first aid training for dealing with young patients. In primary CPR courses, participants learn scene assessment, primary assessment, barrier use, spinal injury management, shock management, serious bleeding management and choking management.
Course availability
CPR and other first aid courses are available extensively in different methods ranging from open courses, blended learning and online learning. CPR courses require candidates to practice using specialised equipment. On course completion, candidates should expect to receive a certificate of attendance, accreditation to deliver CPR and a broad range of practical skills giving them the confidence to participate in first aid interventions. Blended learning is helpful as candidates have the feature of both online learning and in-person learning available. This provides a lot of flexibility and helps acquire full certification in completion of the course.
Online or distance CPR courses are self-paced, convenient and flexible, designed to suit the busy schedules of working professionals and of those who wish to explore the topic from a more theoretical perspective. Many seminars and live webinars which also offer training on CPR in different formats such as online sources and traditional taught courses format.
Attending CPR courses helps professionals take action during emergencies and save lives if the situation calls for it. People who work in the medical field find the certification of a CPR course very helpful and relevant for their careers, even outside the health and social care spectrum.
