Course description

Every year, we successfully train many students in becoming fully-qualified beauty therapists. By choosing a career in this industry, you will have the opportunity to combine creativity with customer care; helping people to look and feel great. Beauticians are specialists in discussing and understanding client requirements, analysing and advising on skincare and beauty regimes, giving treatments, and applying cosmetics.

On this Level 2 course you will be supported by expert beauty tutors in gaining professional, hands-on training experience with real clients. You will also develop confidence and customer service skills within an industry-standard salon.

We will help you develop the skills you need to work in the beauty therapy industry, including:

Suitability - Who should attend?

A college, navy-coloured uniform and Level 2 kit is essential to purchase prior to starting the course. Information will be given prior to enrolment.

You will need a GCSE grade 4–9 (C+) in English language, plus a minimum of four GCSEs at grades 3–9, including maths.

You will also need:

  • good communication skills
  • creative ability (desirable)
  • a positive reference/school report (including attendance and punctuality) or a Level 1 qualification in beauty therapy

Training Course Content

Topics covered include:

  • facial and skin care
  • cosmetic make-up
  • manicure
  • waxing
  • pedicure
  • lash and brow treatments
  • health and safety standards
  • anatomy and physiology
  • sales skills
  • customer service and conversational techniques

GCSE maths can be taken alongside the course if you do not achieve grade 4 or above in your GCSEs prior to the course. GCSE English language grade 4 or above must be achieved prior to the course.

You will learn various aspects of skin care and make-up treatments, methods of waxing and basic hair removal and how to give luxury manicures and pedicures. Your study will also look at employment standards and you will develop your communication skills for when dealing with clients.

You will learn about stock control, selling and health and safety so you are aware of safe working practices and salon practices. You will have the opportunity to work in the college salons, supporting other students and dealing with clients in a real commercial environment.

Course delivery details

  • Ongoing practical assessment throughout the year.

  • Training will be carried out on each other.

  • 12 online papers to complete throughout the year.

  • Coursework assignments to be completed for practical units.

Once you have completed training, you will carry out practice assessments on clients. You will be given a pre-observation assessment book to complete and record the minimum requirements. Once you have completed that, you will be able to do your final assessments. You will be supported to work at your own pace.
