FdA Educational Practice

This program aims to produce highly skilled and well-qualified Teaching Assistants, capable of supporting teaching with a variety of contexts.

Suitability - Who should attend?

English Language Requirements Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate that their level of English is acceptable, by achieving a score in a recognised test such as: ? British Council IELTS: normally minimum level 6.0 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in the reading and writing components;

DBS checks – all students will be required to have obtained clearance from, the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) for working with children and young people and as teachers. You will not be permitted to undertake the program if you have been barred from teaching or working with children.

Mature students, who do not meet these academic qualifications, can have relevant work or life experience taken into consideration.

Upon successful completion of the Foundation Degree, students will be able to progress to the BA (Hons) top-up in Education and Lifelong Learning which is a one-year program.

However, the Foundation Degree is a recognised qualification in its own right and students have used it for career progression in learning support roles and in other educational careers. />If you wish to progress to Initial Teacher Training you must have Mathematics, English and a Science (Primary Only) subject at GCSE Grade C or above at the point you apply for the PGCE

Course delivery details

The course is assessed through;on-going assessment including essays, reports, presentations, and a research;project in the second year of the course. There are no exams on the Foundation;Degree.

This;full-time program requires significant independent study to support learning;and so students should expect to spend approximately 10-15 hrs per week on;independent study.
