In Year 2 we will continue to give you the tools to become a good bricklayer. Good bricklayers make good money. There is a saying - "a good bricklayer is never out of work". Bricklayers build new houses and repair old ones. As a trained bricklayer you could work on housing sites, city developments, domestic extensions and conservatories, new work, conversions or repairs. You might want the security of site work or possibly branch out on your own, become self employed and start your own business. On the second year of the Diploma course, along with further developing your practical skills we will expand on many of the subjects from the first year which included: * brickwork, blockwork, brick bonds * how to read building drawings * technical drawing * foundations * calculating materials * estimating * communications in construction In addition to the above you will learn about; * cavity wall construction * thin joint blockwork * timber frame housing.
