Course description
Most learners on the BTEC Level 3 programme work towards a BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in year one and progress onto an extended Diploma in year two. The emphasis is on learning theories, concepts and practices within engineering that will provide knowledge and understanding to enable the learner to analyse, solve and evaluate real engineering problems. Learners then benefit from a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification which carries UCAS points for University entry or contributes to the framework of an apprenticeship in Engineering. In this study programme you will apply the principles and knowledge on how to successfully work in Engineering that will include, but not be limited to:
- Product Design & Manufacture
- Calculus
- Computer Aided Design
- Electronics
- Metallic material
- Engineering process
- Engineering principles
Additional Employability skills include :
- IT skills to include the use of Word and Excel and engineering specialist software.
- CAD/CAM training using Autodesk AutoCAD and SolidWorks software.
- Employability Skills.
- Work Experience in industry.
- Personal Professional Development - Preparation work in readiness for a job interview or apprenticeship in Engineering e.g. CV writing and completing job application forms.
- Preparation work for UCAS and entry to University.
- Managing study and private learning and how to explore different methods of learning.

Suitability - Who should attend?
You will have tutorial support throughout your study programme and one to one tutor support and guidance as needed of 20 minutes every 3 weeks. You will also contribute to your own support using the college's Electronic Individual learner Plan. This will also help you build your own Passport to Success documentation.

Continuing Studies
- A further full or part time study programme to level 4 HNC in Engineering
- Gaining of employment within the Engineering industry at junior technician level
