Course description

Apprenticeship in Carpentry Level 2:

The programme provides practical training and the opportunity to develop skills within the construction industry. This is achieved by attending college one day a week and working a minimum of 16 hours per week in the work place. Carshalton College provides the underpinning and supporting knowledge along with practical training to work safely and efficiently within the carpentry and construction industry.

The technical certificate covers the knowledge requirement the course also includes numeracy and literacy delivery to assist in the requirements for the work place. In addition to this you will be assessed in the work place to provide evidence of working at a competent level to be able to satisfy the requirements of the NVQ Level 2.

Course content

Framework & Qualifications – Site Carpentry
Apprentices work towards a number of qualifications called a “Framework”; this usually includes an NVQ Level 2, a Technical Certificate, at least two Key Skills and Employment Rights & Responsibilities. Some frameworks also have
additional skills tests.

The Apprenticeship Framework for Carpentry has the following qualifications
NVQ Wood Occupations – Site Carpentry – Level 2

Core 01 Health and Safety
Core 04 Communication
Core 05 Construction Tech
OCC 36 First Fix
OCC 37 Second Fix
OCC 38 Structural Carcassing
OCC 39 Maintenance

Key Skills

Application of Number Level 1
Communication Level 1
Employment Rights & Responsibilities
Supporting Craft Occupations

You will also gain a minimum of 5 QCF units for NVQ.

Progression

Upon successful completion of the Level 2 Apprenticeship programme you may be eligible to undertake the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship Certificate.

Suitability - Who should attend?

An average of grade C/4 in English and Maths GCSEs or successful completion of a Level 1 programme are required, the candidate will also need to:Demonstrate your commitment and skills in an interview.Have an 85% attendance on current course or at schoolBehaviour and punctuality must be excellent and a reference from current course tutor or school will be required.SuitabilityAnyone working a minimum of 16 hours per week in paid employment, working within the Carpentry and Construction industry
