Course description

The NEW IPAF Harness Inspectors’ Combined Course (Harness Awareness, Harness User & Harness Inspector) has been designed for anyone who operates a Mobile Elevated Work Platform, such as static booms, scissor lifts and mobile boom lifts and require to be trainer on the safe use and inspection of a full body Harness system.

The 1/2 day course will cover inspection, maintenance, monitoring, fitting and correct use of safety harnesses and lanyards when operating a MEWP.

Designed to instruct up to a maximum ratio of 10 delegates per instructor, the course also covers skills such as the selection and pre-use inspection of the equipment. Our industry leading course will provide delegates with the knowledge to understand the relevant Health & Safety Regulations, Guidance and Standards surrounding IPAF Harness Use and Inspection, in particular.

Training Course Content

Successful delegates will gain an understanding of the correct selection and pre-use inspection of safety harnesses and lanyards used for restraint on MEWPs (Mobile Elevated Work Platforms).

The Training Agenda is formed by:

IPAF Harness Awareness e-Learning Online Module, which incorporates:

  • Introduction
  • Hierarchy of Person Fall Protective Equipment (PFPE)
  • Know your Equipment: Harness Systems
  • Anchor Points
  • Boom Platform Hazards: Stay Safe
  • Vertical Platform Hazards: Stay Safe
  • Pre-use Checks
  • Donning and Doffing
  • Cleaning and Storage
  • Summary
  • Final Online Theory Test (Pass Mark 24/30 – 80% Required)

IPAF MEWP Harness User Course, which incorporates:

  • Practical Training on application of the knowledge gained in the Awareness Theory Training
  • Practical Demonstration in the correct pre-use check of a harness and lanyard for use in a MEWP
  • Practical Testing on demonstrating the correct procedure of the: pre-use check of a harness and lanyard for use in a MEWP, fitting and adjustment of a harness and lanyard for use in a MEWP and attaching to the correct anchor point in a MEWP and adjustment of the lanyard to provide effective restraint.

IPAF MEWP Harness Inspector Training Course, which incorporates

  • Introduction
  • Statutory Inspections
  • Types of Detailed Inspections
  • Longevity and Obsolescence
  • Common Types of Damage and Criteria for Failure
  • Inspection Report
  • Individual Practical Assessment: Inspection of minimum of 2 harness systems, 2 lanyards, and 2 connectors, alongside with completion of relevant documentation. This will be observed and assessed by your IPAF Instructor with the results recorded.
