This course provides practitioners with the practical and technical knowledge and skills required to deliver advice in Scotland relating to trust and executory accounting. This Advanced Certificate can be taken as part of the STEP Diploma.

It increases your understanding of the administration of trusts and estates and enables you to give practical advice on the law and procedures involved.

- Define, construct, and interpret trust and executry accounts.
- Understand the principles of trust and executry accounting.
- Understand the role and duties of the executor in accounting for assets.
- Construct and interpret trust and client executry accounts and the valuation of assets
- Identify the trusts for which accounting is required in modern practice
- Understand the principles of and law governing the investment of the trust fund
- Understand how to allocate receipts and payments between capital and income and the law and practice of apportionment
- Define, construct and interpret trust and executry accounts.
Course delivery details
This course is available for study twice annually, with intakes beginning in January and July (and assessments taking place in May and November).
The course is delivered through a combination of online learning and three workshops and will take four months to complete.
Enrolment onto this course will include the following:

o Self-assessment materials
- Examination fees.
The course is assessed by way of an end of course five-hour open-book written examination.
Once you have successfully completed this course, you will gain 30 diploma-level credits towards STEP membership and be awarded the STEP Advanced Certificate in Trust and Executry Accounting (Scotland)
