Course description

Access to Higher Education Diploma (Humanities & Social Sciences): This course is for you if you have been out of education for some time and do not have the formal qualifications normally required for entry to further and higher education. If you are interested in studying computing and progressing onto University the Access course will help you develop the knowledge and skills required to enter Higher Education. Students who complete this course have gone on to university to study a wide variety of specialisms from Law to Psychology. This one year course is fast paced and requires self-motivation and determination in order to be successful. All applications to Higher Education Courses must be made through UCAS however please ring us for advice on this process and we will support you with your application. Learners will be required to complete units in the following modules- Specialist units in - Law - Politics - Psychology - Sociology - History - Government and Politics - English language - Examination Skills - Writing & Delivering Seminar Papers. Study Skills in - English language - Academic Skills

Suitability - Who should attend?

The Access to HE Diploma is an alternative route to higher education (HE) degree programmes. Please note that as part of the entry criteria many universities will require English and Maths GCSEs at grades A- C in addition to the Access to HE Diploma qualification. You are advised to check the entry requirements for your intended progression route before you apply for the Access course. Some HE institutions may accept alternative qualifications such as Functional Skills level 2 or Qualifications taken outside of the UK. For the Access to HE Diploma applicants should have at least both GCSE in English and Maths at grades A-C on entry (or evidence that an equivalent qualification is accepted by your university of choice). All applicants will be interviewed. If you do not already have the entry qualifications you could consider the following route in order to progress to the Access to HE programme: Complete a two year programme: Year 1: studying GCSE English and Maths Year 2: Access to HE Diploma. If your first language is not English you should have a minimum of 6.00 in IELTS alongside a UK or equivalent international qualification (a NARIC check will be required).
