Course description

Art & Design (Graphic Design) - Level 3 Extended Diploma: This course is for you if you are interested in Art &amp Design and in pursuing a career in the Graphic Design industry &amp other related areas of commercial art/design (e.g. architecture interior design product design fashion promotion &amp marketing etc.). This is the second year of a vocational two-year course aimed at students who are keen to develop excellent practical and creative skills. The course also encourages students to explore and develop their critical and analytical thinking and respond effectively to vocational and realistic industry related assignment briefs. During the course students will develop their skills in a range of traditional and digital media including drawing and painting printmaking mixed media 3D design &amp photographic techniques and industry-related computer software which includes Adobe Photoshop In-Design and Illustrator whilst exploring a range of graphic design contexts including Illustration packaging magazine design information design advertising sequential Images (Graphic Novels) typography &amp logo design etc. Course breakdown In Year 1 you are initially enrolled on a 60-credit Subsidiary Diploma and will be required to complete all 6 units by the end of Term 2. On successful completion of these units you will continue with 3 more units in Term 3 to form a 90-credit Diploma in Art &amp Design (Graphic Design). In Year 2 if you have successfully completed your 90-credit Diploma you will be enrolled onto the full Extended Diploma in Art &amp Design (Graphic Design). Please note you must successfully complete your 90-Credit in Year 1 in order to join Year 2. On completion of the full 2-year course you will achieve a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art &amp Design (Graphic Design). &nbsp Modules include Material Techniques &amp Processes Visual Recording Visual Communication Information Design Graphic Image Making Typographic Layout and Design Ideas and Co

Suitability - Who should attend?

4 GCSEs grade 9 - 4 (A*-C) including English Language and a subject relevant to your chosen area of study. Students with full Level 2 vocational qualifications with an overall Merit/Distinction in Art and Design will be considered alongside 2 GCSEs grade 9 - 4 including GCSE English Language and a good reference. During your interview and enrolment you will need to present a portfolio of work demonstrating your drawing painting line and tone observation skills from life (not computer copied work or manga). GCSE Maths & English As part of their overall Study Programme students will also be required to attend L2 Certificate/GCSE Maths classes if they have yet to achieve a GCSE Grade 4 in the subject. To be accepted onto the course applicants are required to have achieved a Grade 4 in English Language. In certain circumstances (e.g. overseas applicants) applicants may be accepted without this if they demonstrate the necessary level of literacy in diagnostic testing completed during enrolment. In such cases students will be required to study GCSE English as part of their Study Programme.
