Course description
(1) Basic Life Support
The content of this course provides basic life saving first aid and workplace health and safety regulations, covering the following:
Managing an emergency
Communication and casualty care
Health and safety (first aid) regulations
Resuscitation (adult CPR)
Unresponsive casualty
Defibrillator and how it works
Written assessment and continuous observation by the trainer.
(2) Safe Management of Medication and Administration
Aims
Medication Training Course Summary:
Module 1 – Policies. Legislation. CQC
Module 2 – Medication. Routes. Formulation. Types. Absorption.
Module 3 – MDT. Roles and Responsibilities. Levels of support. Boundaries and agreed ways of working.
Module 4 – Order. Receive. Store. Record. Transfer. Dispose.
Module 5 – 7 R’s. Group Work. Sources of info. Practical session including MAR charts.
Module 6 – Risk assessments. Person Centred Care. Review. Covert. Consent. Refuse.
Module 7 – Errors and action.
Module 8 – Infection Control and Technique.
Learning Outcomes
On completion staff will have a much improve awareness of their roles and responsibilities in relation to administering medication.
Staff will have a great understanding of the legislation and regulation surrounded medication in a care setting.
Staff will be able define the 7 R’s and have a greater understanding of errors and relevant actions.
Staff will understand the importance of infection control and correct risk assessing.
Staff will have undertaken a practical exercise involving MAR charts and medication boxes
(3) Moving and Handling
Course Objectives
· Move and handle people in a way that requires the least amount of effort
· Move and handle people in a way that provides greater comfort and dignity to the patient or resident
· Understand manual handling legislation as it applies to Healthcare
· Gain a better understanding of spinal mechanics
· Look after your own back and that of patients / residents
· Conduct a personal risk assessment for patients / residents
· Safely move people with and without the use of specialist equipment
